FORBIDDEN BOOKS

Welcome to Forbidden Books.

Forbidden books is the new independent publishing imprint brought to you by Norwich based arts collective Mooncalf Curios.

Mooncalf Curios were one of the UK's most innovative arts promotion and production collectives, specialising in live literature and performing arts based events between 2004-8. As well as our promotions work we also produced pioneering, multimedia live literature performances, featuring original written material, original sound art, and original video art. We have a reputation as one of the UK's most challenging and entertaining live literature performance groups.

In the course of the last three years, we at Mooncalf have come into contact with a growing network of artists and writers, and it is the aim of Forbidden Books to provide another outlet into culture besides the live events for the artists we work with specialising, in this case, in printed media.

Praise for Forbidden Books and Mooncalf Curios:

"Critically Acclaimed"- Norwich Evening News

"A clash of extreme literary styles and multi media formats"- Norwich Arts Centre

"Offers the best in contemporary literature"- Outline Magazine

"Crass-tastic"- Sue Tebble (Punk Rock Queen)

"Performance Art Wank"- Now or Never magazine

The Cutting Room

The Cutting Room will be a new regular night of satire for the good people of Norwich- billed as Norwich's first satirical nightclub, the event opened its doors for the very first time at 7pm on May 4th at The Marquee, Norwich, and featured the Mustard City Rockers, Cakes and Ale, plus spoken word from Paul Knight, Jeremy Brian, Sweetjug and Atilla The Stockbroker. The event was part of the 2009 Norwich Fringe Festival and was extremely well attended by about 200 drunken anarchists...

More recently we were very pleased to have found a permanent home- the 3rd Thursday of the month at The Workshop, Earlham Road, Norwich. The Workshop is an independent bar and restraunt, famous for its incredible pizzas and world beating selection of Absinthes. We hope to see you there some time!

A Fete Worse Than Death

Thanks to all who had a hand in what was a super-successful week of events- I've written a bit of a blog about it, which you can find on the new blog page on the navigation bar. All I have to say here is that it was great fun to do and really showcased the very best in what's happening right now (and I mean RIGHT NOW) in the arts in East Anglia.

SEBOR ABSINTH

I think it is only right to include a link to this famous supplier of this notorious herb based beverage. I put a good deal of the success of the opening of Forbidden Books down to their fine product. You can see us all enjoying it in the photo gallery- if you would like to buy bottles of Sebor, why not check out their awesome online shop at www.seborabsinth.com

Be among the first to pick up a copy of 'A Trail of Burnt Paper' by Paul Knight, which will be released on Monday 20th October 2008, the opening night of 'A Fete Worse Than Death'- see the Events page for more details...

"If you wanted to put Paul Knight's 'A Trail of Burnt Paper into a shareholder pleasing box, you might compare it to Japanese, and later Hollywood horror film 'The Ring'... The writing can be savage, brutal at times; at others, it is controlled and delicate. It hasn't been edited into a neater style or more conventional structure, but that is part of its beauty." - ARENA Magazine
